Who is Jason Malmberg?
I’m Jason Malmberg, art director, creative director, and the designer behind Decabet (pronounced deh-kuh-bet), my music design studio based in Sacramento, California. I founded Decabet in 2004, and for more than twenty years it’s been my home for gig poster design, record covers, festival branding, and the full range of work that lives at the intersection of music and visual culture.
Under the Decabet name I’ve designed for some of the biggest acts in rock: Kings of Leon (five posters), Foo Fighters (four), Metallica (two), and even “Weird Al” Yankovic. Along the way there have been countless flyers, collectible prints, and limited-edition screen prints for Live Nation and independent artists alike.
My work blends collage, photography, and illustration, all driven by a love of color and typography. Where possible, I’ve written case studies to share the thinking behind each piece: what I aimed for, how it evolved, and whether it hit the mark.
If you have a project that could use a little Decabet energy, reach out at the form below.
