Northern Nights Music Festival Poster 2016
NORTHERN NIGHTS MUSIC FESTIVAL 2016
SETTING A HYPERREAL SCENE
After the success of 2015 Poster, I was fortunate to be asked back by the Northern Nights people to have a go at 2016’s. Rather than do a repeating look ala Coachella’s iconic poster we decided to instead make each year a distinct illustration in the same style, from different vantage points. Once again, we made the festival’s gorgeous Humboldt County setting the real star of the show. This was an enormously challenging project as I was looking at a blurry Google earth image and a couple very low-res onsite photos and extrapolating what it would all come together as on the night. The mountains, the trees, the fog, the canopy of night sky, the lights playing against the smoke and fog. Its all there. A huge undertaking, but with terrific results.

A ranking covering all their studio recordings from 1982 to their breakup in 2011. The ranking doesn’t include compilations or live albums, although I am including Dead Letter Office…
Our Band Could Be Your Typography Lesson
13. BROKE. CURIOUS. BORED. The moment is burnt indelibly into my memory. Every Sunday morning, I’d pick through the day’s edition of the Omaha World Herald (I'm a Nebraska boy. Or at least was for my first 25 years), and I was leafing through inky inserts and box store circulars…
