Queens of the Stone Age Poster Sacramento 2005
Concept and Process
At the time (May 2005) this Queens of the Stone Age poster was my most ambitious gigposter yet. For the (damn perfect) double-bill of Queens of the Stone Age and Eagles of Death Metal, I dug deep to try to come up with as much 70s stoner, satanic, occult, druggy imagery as I could come up with and couched it inside a kind of stylized skull. They were touring Lullabies to Paralyze at the time, and that inspired a lot of the images used in the composition: mutant sheep, benignly spooky bats, spiders, spider webs, etc. Of course with the band’s scuzzy 70s stoner rock aesthetic present I work some vinyl record imagery in, including 45 adapters as quasi-religious cult symbols. This is a really nicely printed 3-color print on metallic speckled “nude” metallic stock.
