SPOON BOTTLEROCK NIGHT SHOW POSTER SACRAMENTO 2022
Sometimes the first instinct is the right one
I was contacted by LiveNation to do a poster for Spoon‘s night show at Ace of Spades in Sacramento to go with their appearnace at the 2022 appearance at the Bottlerock festival in Napa Valley. It was a tight turnaround of about a week but fortiuantely I had a roadtrip planned to LA that weekend so I’d haev a lot of time in a car with my ipad. Sometimes without the luxury of time we have our clearest and strongest ideas. Working entirely in Procreate on a 12″ iPad Pro and feeling pretty Milton Glaser I got down to it. I also had The Replacements’ Pleased to Meet Me on the brain and that comees through a bit as well I think. Im really proud of how this one turned out in spite of second-guessing myself at the beginning (I almost ditched this concept initially, wondering “hold up, is this idea dumb though?”) but sometimes your first instinct is the correct one.

A ranking covering all their studio recordings from 1982 to their breakup in 2011. The ranking doesn’t include compilations or live albums, although I am including Dead Letter Office…
Our Band Could Be Your Typography Lesson
13. BROKE. CURIOUS. BORED. The moment is burnt indelibly into my memory. Every Sunday morning, I’d pick through the day’s edition of the Omaha World Herald (I'm a Nebraska boy. Or at least was for my first 25 years), and I was leafing through inky inserts and box store circulars…
