Kings of Leon Poster Tampa 2017
KINGS OF LEON POSTER 2017 TAMPA, FLORIDA
After designing three posters for Kings of Leon‘s summer tour (which you can see here), the band asked me to come back and take a swing at a couple more fall dates in the fall for their tour of the southeast U.S. This was a bit of a challenge as I felt like I had exhausted every good concept I could come up with to incorporate cherries, a visual element that the band really wanted to include in all the posters for this tour.
While it would be easy to simply add a cherry here or there just to meet that goal, I’m always driven to attempt (at least) to be clever. So I went back to the well and came up with two concepts: One of which is this, where I imagine a 7″ 45RPM single shaped like a pair of cherries, pressed onto cherry red vinyl, with 7″ picture sleeve referencing the show’s location: Tampa, Florida and stylized silhouette of the band.
I always like to add little details when doing a meta reference, so you’ll notice that the date of the show is repeated as the duration of the song on the record’s label, as well as in the mock RCA logo (KOL). Plus there’s no way I was going to not include the 45 adapter as well.

Ranking R.E.M.’s Album Covers Aesthetically 1982-2011
I was inspired by a friend’s Facebook thread about underrated late-period R.E.M. albums to create a ranking of the band’s album covers. Aesthetically. A ranking covering all their studio recordings from 1982 to their breakup in 2011. The ranking doesn’t include compilations or live albums, although I am including Dead Letter Office…
Our Band Could Be Your Typography Lesson
13. BROKE. CURIOUS. BORED. The moment is burnt indelibly into my memory. Every Sunday morning, I’d pick through the day’s edition of the Omaha World Herald (I'm a Nebraska boy. Or at least was for my first 25 years), and I was leafing through inky inserts and box store circulars…
